Custom Flames on your car radio controlled
Creating a custom paint job for your new radio controlled shell lexan car is very fun, I'll show you how to do this with perfect results every time, no artistic skills required, you not need an airbrush or a weekend to do it, and you'll be amazed at the fantastic results you can achieve with a little know how.
For the purposes of this article, I chose an old favorite of mine, the flames. The techniques can be applied to any design you can imagine, just a little imagination.
First things first.
First thing you need to do is clean the tank, the consumption of hot water and soap, be sure to rinse all the soap and let it dry before you continue, it is essential that the shells are clean lexan or your paint job will not, or will be made once your imperfections.
The second thing you need to do is to cut the shell on, we do first for two reasons:
- It is easy to align the wheels and posts body chassis
- After you paint it scratching the paint while you cut the shell
Imagination is the key
Now that we have the body cleaned and cut that we need to find the natural lines of the body we can use to keep our design perfectly symmetrical, it is often difficult to paint over vents and other parts of the car very detailed to choose your location wisely.
Thus, after a long debate we decided to start a flame two colors on the side and rest of the car will be black, in my example I will use metal red and purple for the flames, and black for the rest.
Hide Shell.
First thing that I need to emphasize is that we paint the inside of the shell, the exterior has transparent film that prevents over spray, once the car is painted and ready for decals and stickers that can be removed, leaving intact until you've painted the car.
Because I normally use the marking hobby shop tape, then you can use masking tape standard that you get hardware stores, which tends to leave tiny specs of paint through, while nobody will ever notice you know about it.
Mask the perfect flame
Now the trick is, finding a good image on google images or somewhere Internet is not really matter where it comes from, if you can, you can draw your own, then scan into a computer. Once you have your Digital Image you can print this with a standard inkjet printer.
At first I tried to print stickers on A4 paper, you can get from any stationery store, the problem is that the glue they use on the back glue the lexan, and even if you delete all the paint will not stick to these parts correctly. The good way is to use the medium of wax paper A4 sticker paper or get a wax other, apply the mask to the side of the wax and then print your design on the marking tape. Remember you'll need to do as a mirror if you want text or numbers
Once done cut out your mask and apply it within of the car. Hides the windows and lights and everything you want, then apply the first coat of paint.
First layer
Darker colors first, then light colors, it always pays to use a color bands, silver or white to normal metal for painting.
When you start applying the first coat of paint start very slowly, keep can about 30cm away from the shell and make a light coat, do not leave the pool of paint or it will run and look terrible. Let dry and then that to apply another layer, for best results, you must apply between 5 and 10 layers for each color. Once done remove the mask.
Now It is time for the two-tone flame, which should be a free space on your shell in the middle of all blacks. The black should be completely dry before you do!
Now from the middle of the flame put a very thin layer of one color, switch directions and do the other color in the other meaning, it will give you your two flames faded, repeat until you're happy that the paint was applied fairly. Last step is to use white paint or silver to back up your entire car.
Finally
Remove the layer of spray on your thumbs and apply and your done. With a little practice you can do some amazing drawings that will make you the envy of your local leisure club RC.
