Cirelli Marketplace Invites Local Charities to Raise Funds and Join the Fun at Cirelliâ??s Classic Car Cruise Nights

 

DATELINE: MIDDLEBOROUGH, MA…The Classic Car Cruise Night/Car Show at Cirelli Marketplace is not only drawing car enthusiasts from far and wide but it is also providing a boost to local charities.

 

Supporters of both the Cancer Society and Children’s Hospital have participated during recent Car Shows, raising funds through the sale of hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and soda donated by Cirelli Marketplace food vendors.

 

An entertaining and FREE outdoor community event that is open to the public every Saturday from 4 pm to 8 pm, the Classic Car Cruise Night/Car Show located at Cirelli Marketplace at 30 Commerce Boulevard in Middleborough, MA is a fun family night featuring hundreds of cars, music, and food. Cirelli’s famous hamburgers and hot dogs are being offered for a nominal fee with all proceeds going to a different charity every Saturday night.

 

Local non-profits are invited to sign up for their turn as a recipient of funds raised at the car show by contacting John Santos or Mike Iolli at Cirelli Marketplace at 1-508-947-8211. On the night of their participation, organizations are also encouraged to set up a table and distribute information to raise public awareness about their cause.

In addition to Classic Car Cruise night every Saturday from 4 to 8 pm, Cirelli Marketplace is also hosting a local Farmer’s Market outside on Fridays from 4 to 7 pm, showcasing the wares of local farmers and crafters. To join in the fun at Cirelli Marketplace take Exit 6 off of Route 495 and follow Route 44 East to Middleborough, travel 3/4 the way around the rotary and take Route 18 North toward Bridgewater, then take the first right onto Commerce Boulevard, the entrance to Cirelli Marketplace is on the left. 1967 – Slot Cars Go Tech

The year was 1967. Slot car racing had officially abandoned scale appearance in favor of speed. This was a natural progression but one that would have long standing consequences.

The motor of choice until this time was the Mabuchi 16D, a motor popular for its balance of low weight and power. From the factory, these motors were not competitive. To make a competitive motor the internal armature would have to be altered. The easiest way, was to have some of its windings removed to decrease it’s resistance which was called de-winding. The best modification, was to remove all the windings, and replace them with thicker gauge wire with less turns. This was called rewinding and it became a cottage industry of it’s own. Small companies would rewind the armatures, epoxy it all in place and even balance it. As these armatures utilized lower gauges of wire, the term “hotter” was coined.

Hot arms draw more current through them. More current means more heat. The component of the armature that accepts the electricity into the armature is called the commutator. Mabuchi made theirs out of plastic with 3 copper plates. Yes, plastic melts, so soon the need for a better commutator became necessary. The endbell of the motor that holds the motor brushes that contact the commutator was also plastic. That needed a better replacement also.
