3 fun ways to learn Japanese
I recently had the chance to speak to an American living in Japan, who had mastered Japanese language. He said he initially took a free language lessons online, but those who do not clear up a point as has attended a local language in his hometown. Slowly, he managed to build their knowledge and finally, he learned Japanese, but as he told me it was a process long and hard that it almost emptied of its energies.
Since I noticed is the case with people increasingly begin learn Japanese, I decided to write a little guide with a fun way to learn some Japanese "organic" instead of following a strict, often boring and tedious process step.
Now I am not a scientist, but I know that when we enjoy doing something, we automatically learn new information without even knowing it. Take a medieval themed PC game, for example. Although playing and having fun, you can also learning bits of history. The Japanese enjoy following learning methods are based on the same concept.
Fun ways to learn Japanese – Anime and Manga
Often these two terms are confused. Manga means "band comic "in Japanese, while the animated series refers to the animation of a manga. Think of the comic X-Men … they were "Manga" first (the actual comic), after which they became Anime (cartoons) and today they are a series films. Anyway, it does not really matter what you call, Anime and Manga are a good way to learn Japanese and they are quite naturally Fun to watch / read.
A particular advantage of Anime and Manga, is that most of these comics and cartoons have a limited word list of expressions and use. You'll be amazed how fast you can take these basic words, so can Anime be used as a starting point of your process of learning Japanese.
Fun ways to learn Japanese – movies and music
I rate movies a learning much better than the music, but hey, if you like Japanese music, why not use it as a helping hand in your learning process? Films have the advantage of combining audio and video to help you understand what's happening more easily. They also be subtitled in English, which may be a good or a bad thing, depending on the quality of subtitles (though, as Japanese words are often extensions translations into English, subtitles can be more harmful than helpful).
A movie that I find particularly interesting in this direction was "The Last Samurai" with Tom Cruise. I do not about the plot, suffice it to say that an American veteran finds himself caught trapped in a Japanese samurai regulation, learning their ways and learn to speak Japanese. While the Japanese folk education Cruise's part of their language, you'll pick it up well.
Fun Ways to learn Japanese – Flash Cards
Flashcards are well known to be an excellent way to learn a new language, but they are even more useful when learning Japanese. The use of flash cards learn Japanese is fun and it will boost your vocabulary in a short time. If you do not find appropriate flashcards on the Internet or in local stores, try to your own! Just cut the cardboard match sizes, write an English word on one side and the Japanese translation of the other and practice her. Try splitting the cards in the names, adjectives, verbs, etc. so they are easier to handle. You can also try to develop the word on the flashcard and shows it does not really matter how skilled you are in the drawing: even a sketch or a drawing primitive Silly will help your brain memorize the words easily.
I did not add the first conversation between these methods of learning fun, simply because if you are so far in the process of learning Japanese to be able to hold a conversation, then you really do not need the methods mentioned above. I found that learning Japanese, more than any other language, is like a snowball. The further down the hill of the learning process is, the faster it goes and the more your knowledge base topics. Once you've started, it is easy to become comfortable in it. Remember, learning Japanese is only as strong as you let it become.
